2008 Interscholastic Stars
Student Recognition Scholarship Awards
Boise, Idaho . . . Five Idaho high school juniors have been named as the 2008 recipients of the Interscholastic Star Student Recognition Scholarships, which are awarded, annually by the Idaho High School Activities Association and its official sponsor, The United Dairymen of Idaho.
Samantha Riggers, Nezperce High School, Jamie Haddock, Potlatch High School, Caleb Crim, Fruitland High School, Meredith Metsker, Bishop Kelly High School, and Joanna Kraft, Eagle High School were selected from a field eighty-four outstanding students who were nominated by their school principals. Twenty-three semifinalists and ten finalists were selected in a two-step screening process. Other finalists were Tyler Mick, Cole Valley Christian High School, Cory Zenner, Highland (Craigmont) High School, Ana Overgaard, Weiser High School, Michael Heinen, Mountain Home High School, and Noah Archibald-Seiffer, Timberline High School.
Nominees for the scholarships are exemplary students who participate in IHSAA-sponsored sports and activities. Each application includes an essay, recommendations from school administrators, description of athletic and activity participation, and service to school and community.
Interscholastic Stars will receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of his/her choice, and will be recognized at the IHSAA Hall of Fame banquet in Boise on August 6. The United Dairymen of Idaho will also contribute $1000 to the recipients’ schools and $500 to the finalists’ schools.
Samantha Riggers, daughter of Scott and Melodee Riggers, participates in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track at Nezperce High School. She is also active in pep and jazz band, FCCLA, pep club, BPA, and Honor Society.
Jamie Haddock, daughter of Jim and Carol Haddock, participates in volleyball, basketball, track, band, and choir at Potlatch High School. Other activities include Student Council, National Honor Society, and Knowledge Bowl.
Caleb Crim, son of Clay and Theresa Crim participates in football, baseball, and choir at Fruitland High School. Caleb is also an active member of the chess team, Student Council, National Honor Society and broadcasting club.
Meredith Metsker, daughter of Greg and Grace Metsker, participates in volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, and band at Bishop Kelly High School. Among her many activities are National Honor Society, Art Club, History Club, and drama.
Joanna Kraft, daughter of Todd and Lisa Kraft, participates basketball and track as well as choir at Eagle High School. She is also active in a variety of leadership groups including National Honor Society, History Club, and tutoring.
