2007 Interscholastic Stars
Student Recognition Scholarship Awards
Five Idaho high school juniors have been named as the 2007 recipients of the Interscholastic Star Student Recognition Scholarships, which are awarded, annually by the Idaho High School Activities Association and its official sponsor, The United Dairymen of Idaho.
Chelsey Caldwell, Genesee High School, Nicole Edwards, Weiser High School, Ryan Hannah, Malad High School, Aaron Kirkham, Century High School and Amber Petersen, Twin Falls High School were selected from a field one hundred twenty-two outstanding students who were nominated by their school principals. Thirty semifinalists and ten finalists were selected in a two-step screening process. Other finalists were Eliza Almond, Centennial High School, Matthew Fronk, McCall-Donnelly High School, Rachel Rodgers, Castleford High School, Marianne Schiess, Firth High School and Hailey Woodruff, Sandpoint High School.
Nominees for the scholarships are exemplary students who participate in IHSAA-sponsored sports and activities. Each application includes an essay, recommendations from school administrators, description of athletic and activity participation, and service to school and community.
Interscholastic Stars will receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of his/her choice, and will be recognized at the IHSAA Hall of Fame banquet in Boise on August 1. The United Dairymen of Idaho will also contribute $1000 to the recipients’ schools and $500 to the finalists’ schools.
Chelsey Caldwell, daughter of Kelly Caldwell and Diana Henderson, has participated in volleyball, jazz and concert choir and jazz and concert band at Genesee High School. She is also active in FFA, Girls Club, Drug Free Youth, Student Council and National Honor Society.
Nicole Edwards, daughter of Colleen and Owen Edwards, participates volleyball, softball and a variety of bands at Weiser High School. Other activities include Student Council, National Honor Society, and school newspaper. Nicole will represent Weiser at Girls State this summer.
Ryan Hannah, son of Paula and Robert Hannah, participates in football, basketball, baseball, and choir at Malad High School. Ryan is also an active member of SADD, Spanish Club, Student Council, National Honor Society and Business Professionals of America.
Aaron Kirkham, son of Jill and Kirk Kirkham, participates in football, wrestling baseball and drama at Century High School. Among his many activities are Student Council, National Honor Society and school newspaper. Aaron will represent Century at Boys State this summer.
Amber Petersen, daughter of Tammy and Ken Petersen, participates volleyball and softball and is school mascot at Twin Falls High School. She is also active in a variety of leadership groups, including Human Resources SLC, Magic Valley Junior Leadership, SWAT and FCA.
